A reader recently asked how astrology can be used to create more love, creativity, and abundance. This essay explores how astrology serves as a tool for timing, self-awareness, and alignment, and how understanding these patterns can change how you live and choose.
No one knows precisely why astrology works only that it does. For centuries, people have turned to the stars for guidance, and the practice has endured because it reliably reflects lived experience. That said, I can share why I believe it works. But first, how I found astrology.
How Astrology Works
My parents weren’t book readers, but many of my mother’s friends were. If a book made its way into our house, I devoured it. When I was about ten years old, Linda Goodman’s Love Signs changed my life. Until then, I thought I would become an astronomer because I spent countless nights outside staring at the Moon and the stars. What captivated me about astrology was that it offered a language of energy. Planets weren’t just lifeless spheres of gas and rock in the sky; they were archetypal forces describing how energy moves, expresses itself, and organizes meaning.
As someone who has always been highly sensitive to atmosphere and “vibes,” astrology felt like both recognition and homecoming. I had found not only my language, but my vocation.
I later certified in Western Tropical astrology around the same time I trained as a soft-skills coach. Combined with my love of myth, spirituality, and Jungian depth psychology, my approach to chart interpretation is both humanistic and mythic.
Carl Jung, who studied astrology, famously said:
“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
Astrology illustrates this beautifully. Life is part fate and part free will. Knowing when to act is often just as important as knowing what to do.
Astrology, therefore, is the art of timing.
A Spiritual Perspective
Source—or Ein Sof, the Infinite—is always giving light. This light is pure love, creativity, and intelligence. Creation is ongoing, and Source experiences itself through you.
Our solar system functions like a filter for this infinite light. Your birth was not accidental. Your soul chose to incarnate at a particular time and place to encounter specific lessons and express particular gifts. The quality of light at birth manifests as psychological patterns, strengths, longings, and challenges.
You are here because creation desires to experience something unique through you.
In Jewish astrology, a zodiac sign is called a mazal, derived from a Hebrew root word meaning “to flow.” As planets move through the zodiac—what we call transits—they channel different qualities of divine light. These moments support spiritual repair (tikkun), growth, and the evolution of the soul.
Astrology does not impose meaning; it reveals when certain qualities of consciousness are most available.
How Astrology Becomes Practical
Astrology does not create love, creativity, or abundance for you. It shows you when specific energies are active, where in your life they are asking for expression, and how to respond consciously rather than unconsciously.
Without awareness, you may miss opportunities, push against the current, or repeat old patterns. With awareness, you can cooperate with the timing of life itself. Astrology turns unconscious reactions into conscious choices.
Creating More Love, Creativity, and Abundance
Your birth chart is divided into twelve houses, each describing a specific area of life. These houses show where energy wants to express itself and how you naturally engage with relationships, creativity, purpose, and material resources.
Let’s take Venus, the planet of love, value, pleasure, and attraction.
If Venus is activated by transit primarily through a conjunction, retrograde, or a significant aspect, you are being invited to review how you give and receive love, what you value, and how you relate to money and self-worth.
For example, if Venus is transiting your 7th House, relationships come into focus. This might be a time to initiate meaningful conversations, renegotiate agreements, or consciously open yourself to deeper intimacy. If you resist this energy—by avoiding vulnerability or repeating old relational patterns—you may experience conflict or dissatisfaction. If you engage it consciously, you create space for more authentic connection.
If Venus is transiting your 2nd House, the focus shifts to abundance and self-worth. You might receive new opportunities, but only if you recognize your value and ask for what you deserve. Astrology doesn’t guarantee the opportunity—it highlights the window in which your actions matter most.
In this way, astrology shows you when the soil is fertile. You still have to plant the seeds.
The Zone of Genius
You may be familiar with the concept of the Zone of Genius—the place where your natural talents and deepest passions converge. This is where effort turns into flow, and contribution feels meaningful rather than draining.
Astrologically, your Zone of Genius is reflected through key placements in your chart, particularly the 1st House (identity and vitality), the 10th House (vocation and visibility), and the aspects your Sun makes to other planets. These placements reveal how you are meant to shine.
Interestingly, Gay Hendricks notes that many people begin operating from their Zone of Genius around age forty. This corresponds astrologically with Uranus opposing its natal position. Uranus, the “Great Awakener,” disrupts false identities and realigns us with the destiny our soul designed.
Your chart also reveals how you attract abundance. When you live in alignment with your design and act in harmony with planetary timing, love, creativity, and opportunity arise more naturally.
